We’ve all been there. Overwhelm. Too much to do, certainly too much to try and control. Yet, if we are in overwhelm, we are trying to control too much, consider too much, do too much at once.
Yet, that often gets us into a state wherein we don’t do anything. Then, the situation that feels overwhelming usually grows. No wonder we get stuck!
Sometimes, we are so overwhelmed, we have no idea where to start. Here’s my thought. Start anywhere! Start where you are!
Steps:
Get yourself as centered as possible.
Summarize for yourself the current, in the moment conditions (e.g., My taxes are not done. They need to be done. I’m sitting in my office feeling overwhelmed.)
Challenge yourself to think of three, and three only *small* things you could do that are positive action steps, without thinking of what would come next. (e.g. 1. Call an accountant. 2. Gather receipts from last year. 3. Download the tax forms)
Choose one action step and do it, with no further thought or debate.
You’ll immediately feel better, and have made progress in tackling your situation.
